Live outside of your comfort zone

DAVE KELLOGG PROFILE:

My career has revolved around my ability to tell a story, whether it was when I was a journalist covering the military during the second Iraq War, an Language Arts and Film teacher, or a television and documentary filmmaker. My passion is telling stories, or leading others to tell their own stories, and I am always looking for new opportunities to do so.

My work has taken me across the world. I am adept at working in difficult environments as well as foreseeing problems so to avoid them. Also, I have become skilled at finding solutions to problems that turn out to be unavoidable. When you work in extraordinary places like Tibet, Xinjiang, eastern China, Iraq, Iran, India, Kashmir, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Thailand, Alaska, etc. you cannot successfully complete your work without these skills. I should also mention that besides English, I speak Spanish and Chinese.

SAMPLE MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTIONS:

I've shot, wrote, edited and starred in numerous TV, Web and film documentaries. I'm skilled at using professional-grade cameras, sound and lighting equipment as well as at editing video and sound clips using non-linear editing systems. I also teach these skills professionally. My work also involves promoting audience engagement through writing articles and editorials on Web sites, blogs and video hosting sites. Below are links or embedded samples of my work:
20 Minutes a Day
One of a series of short documentaries to encourage education professionals to stay healthy.
Iran: Persian Powder
Iran is known as a conservative, Muslim-majority nation that bans the freedoms many people are accustomed to elseware. And yet, as we show you in this short documentary, the generalization of "lost freedoms" is not so simple.
Patience over Fire
This is a multimedia feature (photography, written article and video) of National Guard troops fighting some of the most severe forest fires ever witnessed in Washington state.
Picture
Nicaragua: A Canal Runs through It
Two filmmakers attempt to cross the proposed Nicaraguan canal route from the Pacific to the Caribbean coast. They do so against the warnings of a Nicaragua-based reporter jailed for attempting the same feat. Their goal is twofold:
1. Show the landscapes, watersheds, animals and peoples that will be lost if the canal is ever built.
2. Avoid getting caught.
The High One
This is the trailer for my 50-minute documentary on climbing North America's highest peak: Mt. McKinley. It takes a very personal look at the risks and rewards of climbing the dangerous massif.
